Top 3 Trade Destinations Perfect for Falcons’ TE Kyle Pitts

Merriam-Webster defines “enigma” as something hard to understand or explain, a fitting description for Atlanta Falcons’ tight end Kyle Pitts’ first four seasons in the NFL. Drafted fourth overall in 2021 from Florida, Pitts had a strong rookie year with 68 receptions and 1,026 yards but only one touchdown. His 2022 season was cut short after 10 games due to a severe MCL injury. In the 2023-24 seasons, he averaged 50 receptions, 634.5 yards, and 3.5 touchdowns per year, but Pro Football Focus ranked him 33rd out of 37 tight ends with a 59.6 overall grade last season. Pitts has shown explosive ability as a receiver, sometimes being a key player in Atlanta’s passing game but often inconsistent, especially as the team’s offense evolves with emerging stars like wide receiver Drake London and running back Bijan Robinson. As Pitts approaches the final year of his rookie contract, the Falcons may consider trading him, with three prime trade destinations emerging.

One potential trade landing spot is the Green Bay Packers, who could benefit from adding Pitts’ versatility to their offense, especially as their current tight end, Tuckercraft, steps up. Despite drafting wide receivers Matthew Golden and Williams recently, the Packers still lack a true No. 1 receiver. Pitts could fill this gap and offer a dynamic option under the seams, perhaps exchanged for a mid-round pick or one of Green Bay’s young receivers. However, the Packers might hesitate if they see Pitts as only a minor upgrade and not worthy of a significant trade package, and Atlanta likely favors draft compensation in any deal.

Another possible destination is the New York Jets, who are in a transitional phase after moving on from Aaron Rodgers and releasing star wide receiver Davante Adams along with tight end Tyler Conklin. With rookie tight end Mason Taylor and Jeremy Ruckert as options, the Jets still rely heavily on wide receiver Garrett Wilson as their main offensive threat. Adding Pitts would give new quarterback Justin Fields another reliable target and help fill the tight end void, reducing the pressure on rookie tight ends. Still, the Jets could be cautious about using too many assets on offensive players while they are still building around their young quarterback.

The Jacksonville Jaguars also stand out as a strong candidate. Under new head coach Liam Cohen, the Jaguars hope to rebound from a disappointing 2023 by bolstering quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s weapons. Tight end Evan Engram has been a consistent offensive contributor, and Pitts could take over as an athletic and dynamic target for Lawrence. Jacksonville has already made significant draft trades to acquire top talent, including the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, so adding Pitts could create a formidable offense with multiple offensive weapons. Pitts would provide a dependable alternative target for Lawrence, potentially boosting the Jaguars’ offensive production.

Fan Take: This potential trade shuffle involving Kyle Pitts matters because it highlights how teams are constantly evaluating and retooling their rosters in pursuit of success. For NFL fans, watching a gifted but inconsistent player like Pitts find the right fit could reshape offensive strategies and impact competitive balance across the league.
