Newcastle United defender Jamal Russels was turned over this summer for a surprising transfer to rival Sunderland.
The 31-year-old recently lost his favor at St. James Park.
Still, he spent his entire career in Newcastle, so it’s still not clear where Lassell will end next.
The former England Under 21 International began with a book by Nottingham Forest and later returned there for a second spell on Lonely.
Now he’s been turned over as a signature of the surprise possibility of Newcastle’s arch rival Sunderland.
From Jamal Russells to Sunderland?
“Sunderland has to get experienced players, and if you look at that fun room, you need players who have experience in the Premier League,” said Parry Perry Groves.
“When I saw Luton, they had Ross Barkley in the middle when they gave them a big chance to stand up.
“I’m just watching Jamal Russells. Michael Keene is free. These are the kind of players you need to help the young Sunderland players. Their recruitment, if they do it right, they have a chance.”
Players do not travel frequently between Newcastle and Sunderland
Lassell joins a rather exclusive club if he moves between these two Northeast clubs.
The last one would do that was Jack Colbach 12 years ago, but Patrick Van Earnholt, Stephen Caldwell and Titus Bramble are other names representing both teams.
While Russell joining Sunderland will be extremely controversial among Newcastle fans, they can probably forgive him after years of faithful service.
