Get to Know Jordan Ott: The Ultimate Guide to the Phoenix Suns’ New NBA Head Coach Journey

The Phoenix Suns have concluded their search for a new head coach by hiring Jordan Ott. Suns fans are hopeful that Ott will bring much-needed stability, as he is the fourth head coach for the team in four seasons. Previous coaches Monty Williams, Frank Vogel, and Mike Budenholzer all struggled to lead the talented roster to success.

Before joining the Suns as the 23rd head coach in franchise history, 40-year-old Ott spent seven years as an assistant coach with three NBA teams. From 2018 to 2020, he was an assistant with the Brooklyn Nets. He then spent two years in the same role with the Los Angeles Lakers, and most recently, he worked under Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson during the 2024-25 season.

Although Ott has not been a head coach in the NBA until now, his assistant coaching experience equips him with valuable insights to manage a team like the Suns. The Suns currently feature stars Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal. Durant is rumored to be considering leaving the team this summer, but Ott’s hiring might influence his decision since Durant and Ott previously worked together with the Nets.

Ott is described as a dedicated student of basketball with a strong offensive and defensive philosophy. He is recognized as an innovative coach, adding much-needed expertise to the Suns. Notably, Devin Booker played a key role in Ott’s appointment, highlighting the trust the franchise’s star places in their new coach.

Ultimately, while Booker’s involvement in selecting Ott is promising, only time will tell whether Ott can provide the Suns with a long-term coaching solution or if another change awaits after just one season.

Fan Take: This coaching hire is significant because it could stabilize a struggling Suns franchise that’s been cycling through coaches. For basketball fans, Ott’s innovative approach and connection with key players might spark a turnaround, making the Suns a team to watch in the coming seasons.
