Dean Harrison to Step in for TT Clerk Island on Track Following Senior Race Cancellation

Dean Harrison expressed confidence that the Isle of Man TT course clerk would “make the best decision” after the cancellation of the Senior TT race on Saturday. The final race for the 2025 TT, originally set to exceed six laps and start at 10:45 am local time, was delayed multiple times due to weather and eventually attempted at 7 pm. Riders took a 6 pm sighting lap to evaluate the track conditions but reported that winds were too strong for safe racing. Just before 7 pm, course clerk Gary Thompson officially canceled the Senior TT.

It was already known that postponing the race to Sunday wasn’t possible because of poor weather forecasts and limited road closure availability. Dean Harrison, a two-time TT winner in 2025 and a former favorite for the event, supported Thompson’s decision, noting that the conditions were as bad as described. Speaking to Manx Radio, Harrison said, “It’s unfortunate it ended like this, but I fully back Gary’s decision. He made the right call, as he has all week.”

Harrison empathized with the fans who came to witness the race on one of the world’s best tracks, saying, “We want to race on these legendary courses, but honestly, the conditions were exactly as everybody said. The cold, damp patches, and strong winds made it too risky. It’s disappointing, but things can only improve from here.”

Support for Thompson’s choice extended to former TT racers. Lee Johnston, a former winner, told TT+ that riders genuinely want to race and win, but safety concerns must be prioritized. Johnston praised the professionalism of how the situation was handled, emphasizing the respect the riders have for the decisions made. Cameron Donald humorously remarked that fans would have to wait until 2026 to see the next Senior TT winner, noting the strong winds that turned fan zone chairs into cartwheels.

Tom Burchard, a 14-time Sidecar TT champion, highlighted the courage of young and female racers who compete in these tough conditions and emphasized the importance of listening to their safety concerns, describing them as “modern warriors.”

Fan Take: This cancellation highlights the relentless challenges posed by weather at the Isle of Man TT, underscoring how safety must always come first. For racing fans, it’s a reminder that while the thrill of the race is paramount, respecting those conditions preserves the future of this iconic motorsport.
