Newcastle has decided to sign at least one attacker this summer, and they have missed Brian Mbemo, so they moved to another Premier League star.
Mbeumo was the top target for Newcastle in the team’s right-wing position, but they were forced to abandon the pursuit after the Brentford man signaled his intention to join Man United this summer.
This forced Newcastle to change its summer plans. They have since linked to Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga, and are now ready to bolster the pursuit of the players they signed three years ago.
Newcastle step up Joan Pedro’s pursuit
As reported by The Telegraph, Newcastle has raised interest in Brighton forward Joao Pedro’s summer move. The 23-year-old, who has also been attracting interest from Arsenal, is expected to be available in the market during the upcoming transfer period, with the Carabao Cup winner ready to be in front of the queue.
In 2022, Newcastle was very close to signing Pedro when he was in Watford. He joined Brighton a year later and is now able to land at the destination he was planning to go to.
Brighton is believed to be hoping to charge more than £60 million to sell Pedro this summer. However, given that Newcastle sees him as an ideal profile for Eddie Howe’s team, it’s not surprising to see the asking price match when negotiations begin.
It remains to be seen where Pedro will end by the end of summer. He could remain in Brighton for at least another season, but at this stage it appears that Newcastle is preparing himself to take him to St. James Park.
