Ex-Browns All-Pro RB Nick Chubb Poised to Join Texans, Sources Say

Nick Chubb is anticipated to sign with the Houston Texans, assuming he passes his physical, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Although the contract details have not been disclosed, this move offers Chubb a fresh opportunity after being sidelined by knee and foot injuries that limited him to just 10 games over the past two seasons.

Chubb suffered a severe knee injury in Week 2 of the 2023 season, which required multiple surgeries to repair damage to his ACL, MCL, meniscus, and medial capsule. This injury caused him to miss all but two games in 2023 and the first six games of the 2024 season. He managed to play eight games in 2024 but ended the season early in Week 14 due to a broken leg sustained during a game against the Kansas City Chiefs and has not returned to play since.

Despite these setbacks, Chubb was a dynamic player before his injuries, making the Pro Bowl four consecutive times and earning Second-Team All-Pro honors in 2022 as one of the NFL’s top offensive talents. In his eight games during the 2024 season, he had 332 rushing yards, three touchdowns, and averaged 3.3 yards per carry—significantly below his career average of 5.1 yards per carry and 92.8 yards from scrimmage per game.

Joining the Texans, Chubb will be part of an offense led by third-year quarterback CJ Stroud, who aims to build on a 10-7 season that ended with a playoff loss to the Chiefs. The Texans’ backfield will also feature Joe Mixon, who signed a three-year, $25 million contract from the Bengals last offseason. Mixon earned his second career Pro Bowl selection in 2024, recording 1,325 yards from scrimmage, 12 touchdowns, and averaging 4.1 yards per carry.
