Newcastle is hoping to sign at least one attacker this summer, and their hopes to get one of their targets seem to be boosted these days.

It’s no secret that Newcastle is in the market for the right winger. And despite appearing to have missed Brian Mbemo, they identified Anthony Elanga, the new main target for that position.

Newcastle hopes that Elanga and João Pedro will be signed this summer, and with regard to the former, it appears that recent developments have boosted their hopes to the winner of the Carabao Cup.

Speaking to a football insider, former scout Mick Brown revealed that Nottingham Forest has begun preparing for life after Elanga.

“Forest is working on finding an alternative to Elanga. He’s great for the forest, his explosive pace is a real asset to them, and he was a big part of their success and how he played under Nuno.

“There’s a lot of talk about the move to Newcastle right now. If he’s going, the club will need someone to fill that gap. They could go down the same route they sign young players they can develop.

“I’m sure they’re already looking at a few players and they don’t want to lose Elanga, but they might not have the option, so they’ll put together a list.”

It remains to be seen whether Newcastle will be able to sign Elanga this summer. Nottingham Forest looks at alternatives, but they won’t sanction the sale unless their valuations match.
