Rory McIlroy is the first to qualify for Team Europe in the Ryder Cup

Rory McIlroy will be the first player to qualify for Europe for the 2025 Ryder Cup, and the team announced on Monday, with the Masters Champion set to make eight consecutive appearances at biennial events.

McIlroy sealed his spot through the European Points List, a qualification route based on performances on the DP World Tour and events of joint approval.

The 35-year-old completed his long-standing career grand slam at Augusta National in April with his victory at the Dubai DP World Tour Championship, Pebble Beach Proam and Player Championship in November.

A top 20 finish at the US Open over the weekend was enough to mathematically assure his place on the team.

The 2025 Ryder Cup will be held at Beth Page Black in New York from September 26-28, with European Captain Luke Donald closing out his 12-man team later this year through six automatic qualifiers and six captain picks.

“It’s always a great honor to represent Europe in the Ryder Cup, which means that you’ll be qualified for eight times in a row and become part of Luke’s team at Bethpage,” McIlroy said.

“Winning the off-home Ryder Cup is one of the biggest challenges in golf. We know it’s going to be tough in New York, but we look forward to that challenge in September and the opportunity to do something special.”

McIlroy has been the mainstay of the Ryder Cup since his debut in 2010, with Europe winning five times in seven appearances.
