        • Not just SESKO: Arsenal signs £84 million star like Nico Williams

Arsenal needs a striker this summer, but with Victor Gyoker and Benjamin Sesco on Andrea Berta’s crosshairs, he’s also paying attention to signing a new winger.

Real Madrid’s Rodrigo was a name that he regularly linked to the Emirates Stadium Switch this summer, but we have yet to see if that movement will occur.

One deal that certainly unlikely to happen this summer is Nico Williams, with the Spaniard reportedly trapped in the Barcelona movement of his dreams.

Why Arsenal needs a Nico Williams alternative

After a sublime campaign at Euro 2024 last summer, Williams spoke about the town with his club, Athletic Bilbao.

That’s certainly true, and it explains why Arsenal discovered to negotiate what makes trading difficult.

Last winter, Arteta dreamed of signing Spanish International, but it was reported that the contract was never nearing.

Certainly, despite renewed interest this summer, it appears that the attackers are heading for Barcelona.

The latest was provided by Athletics’ David Ornstein on Tuesday morning. He claims that both the Gunners and Chelsea have “cooled” their interest in the 22-year-old as “stepping up Barcelona and Bayern Munich will consider the move.”

Barca wants to make a deal and has already offered a deal to the younger winger.

So, when it leaves the table, where will Arsenal’s attention be directed next? Perhaps Anthony Gordon?

According to an Athletic report, Arteta and Co are increasing their ranks in a wider position, with three names, particularly in the finalists.

Williams is one of them, Rodrigo is the other, and his ultimate name is Gordon of Newcastle United.

Arsenal is known to be a long-term fan of England International, and the report points out that he is “interested” to North Londoners and that they are “worshipers” of his qualities.

Why is Gordon possible better than Nico Williams?

You won’t be attracting Barca’s interest unless you’re a strong and great player. At Williams you have the next hope of Spain along with Lamin Yamal on the opposite side.

Williams certainly isn’t as exciting as Yamal, but he is still one of the most promising young forwards in the European scene.

But his numbers were not actually there. Too much It’s impressive in recent seasons. In 2023/24, Bilbao Star scored just eight times in all competitions. Impressively, he registered as many as 18 assists.

This season he scored 11 goals and registered seven assists in 45 games, with only five of those goals appearing in Lariga Action.

By comparison, Gordon’s numbers aren’t in another world, but they’re at the norm and he’s already producing it in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old scored nine times and assisted seven times in 2024/25 on 42 outings, which was not as impressive as his previous campaign return. As it was the best season of his career, the former Everton man scored 12 and supported 16 goals.

So, there’s not a huge amount to separate them over the past two years, but what are the other numbers saying?

Well, again, I don’t really separate them. Williams is more confidential, but if Arsenal is looking for a goal, they’re a better option in the words of Gordon – teammate Bruno Guimarèe.

Carries are considered progressive if the ball moves from the starting point towards the opponent’s goal at least 10 yards or more, or is carried into the penalty area.

Over the past few seasons, Arsenal has relied so much on Bukayosaka on his right flank that he came up with a product. In 2023/24 he was the club’s top goal scorer and had scored 20 goals.

He ended the campaign with 12 goals. As for Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Torosad, they suffered from long-term contradictions throughout the campaign.

The latter scored 10 points every 5.6 games with 56, while the former scored 10 points every 5.1 games, with one point every 5.1 games. As for Gordon, he scored once every four games two seasons ago and once every 4.6 games in 2024/25.

So, Arteta is clearly aiming for his goal, so Gordon might be the man he needs this summer. That’s just a shame that he boasts a asking price of around £100 million. It certainly is less likely to happen.
