Petra Kvitova is back at Wimbledon after the 2011 and 2014 champions were awarded wildcards at this year’s tournament on Wednesday.

Kvitova, 35, last played in the Grass Court Grand Slam Tournament in 2023. She first became a mother when her son was born at last year’s Wimbledon tournament.

After 17 months away from the court, she returned to the WTA tour in Austin, Texas in February, and is currently ranked 572nd. Former world No. 2 Kvitova lost in the first round of the WTA 500 event held at the Queens Club earlier this month at the Queens Club.

Kvitova, a native of the Czech Republic, was the only non-British player to win a wildcard in singles in the main draw on Wednesday.

The other seven players who have wild cards for the female draw include British players Heather Watson, Harriet Dirt and Jody Barrage, while Dan Evans is among the seven British players who have been given wild cards for the male draw. Another men’s wildcard will be announced “soon,” organizers said.

The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to the report.
