Hale, Germany — Alexander Bublik won the Halle Open for the second time on Sunday, beating Danil Medvedev 6-3, 7-6 (4).

This was Bublik’s first victory in seven career matches vs. Medvedev.

Kazafstani, who also won the Grass Court Tournament in 2023, is the third player to win the title more than twice, after three-time winner Yevgeny Kafelnikov and 10-time champion Roger Federer.

“Danneel, I’m cursed to play you forever and have never won a set in my life, but today is fun. “I mean, to win, to beat you here, that’s a privilege for me.”

Bublik, who defeated top-ranked Jannik Sinner in the second round, got off to a strong start and put together a 12-point streak in the first set. The second wasn’t as fluid as there were five double faults, but Medvedev produced consecutive backhand errors in the tiebreaker, with Bublik securing a chance to close the match in 81 minutes.

Medvedev saw his home favourite Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals, and was his first final since losing to Carlos Alkaraz at the Indian Wells in March 2024.

“It’s probably a better week than we expected, but in the end it’s not the best feeling,” Medvedev said. “I’m trying to do better next time.”
