Lions DB Brian Branch Calls Past Struggles “Invincible” as He Gears Up for a Breakout 2025 Season

The Detroit Lions’ 2024 regular season was remarkable, setting franchise records with 15 wins, averaging 33.2 points per game, and achieving a point differential of +222. However, despite these impressive stats, the Lions fell short in the playoffs, suffering a surprising 45-31 defeat at home against Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders in the division round. For the second consecutive year, the Lions have stumbled in the postseason, highlighting a challenge they need to overcome in 2025.

Pro Bowl defensive back Brian Branch is optimistic about the team’s potential to advance further in the playoffs this coming season, citing improvements and strong team chemistry as key factors. “We feel we’re better than last year,” Branch told the Detroit Free Press, emphasizing the team’s hunger and enhanced unity. He also believes that the trials faced in past seasons have built resilience within the squad. “We’ve experienced ups and downs and fought through tough games, making us feel invincible.”

Though the Lions retained most of their roster, they lost offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn to new coaching roles elsewhere. The capability of newcomers John Morton (offense) and Kelvin Shepherd (defense) to fill these influential positions remains to be seen. The team also faces a challenging schedule, with eight of their nine road games against teams with winning records from last season — the most difficult road slate in NFL history — including two Super Bowl participants, making the upcoming season a true test of their mettle. Branch believes that these obstacles only strengthen the Lions’ resolve and brighten their future prospects.

Fan Take: This update is crucial for NFL fans because it showcases a talented Lions team on the brink of breaking through playoff barriers and reshaping their narrative. If Detroit can harness their improved chemistry and navigate their tough schedule, they could become a major contender, injecting fresh excitement and competitiveness into the league.
