NHL Trade Buzz: Canadiens Eyeing Blues Star for Big Move

St. Louis Blues forward Jordan Kyrou has been the focus of trade speculation during the offseason. As the 27-year-old’s full no-trade clause kicks in on July 1, questions have risen about whether the Blues might trade him before the season starts.

While there is a chance that Kyrou will remain with St. Louis, his performance has drawn attention from multiple teams, including some Original Six franchises. On a recent episode of TSN Insider Trading, reporter Pierre Lebrun noted that the Montreal Canadiens are among the teams interested in acquiring Kyrou.

“Montreal would prefer not to trade away assets,” Lebrun said. “They want to strengthen their top-six forwards. While finding a second center has been challenging, they are also considering adding a winger. Jordan Kyrou is one of several players the Canadiens have shown interest in.”

Following their return to the playoffs this spring, Montreal is looking to improve their lineup, as shown by their recent acquisition of defenseman Noah Dobson from the New York Islanders. Adding a player like Kyrou to their top-six forwards could significantly boost their chances.

For the Blues, whether they trade Kyrou to Montreal or another team, they will demand a substantial return to make a deal worthwhile.

After making strides this season, St. Louis needs to be active this offseason, especially in strengthening their defense. They have also been linked to Noah Dobson, aiming to bolster their defensive lineup.

Fan Take: This potential trade highlights how teams are aggressively positioning themselves for a competitive edge, making the offseason more exciting for hockey fans. If Kyrou moves, it could reshape the balance of power, especially for a hungry team like Montreal looking to advance deeper in the playoffs.
