Yankees’ Marcus Stroman Impresses with Stellar Comeback Following Strong Illinois Stint

The Yankees were in need of a strong performance from Marcus Stroman, and he delivered on Sunday. Though he had some struggles during his minor league rehab, Stroman looked solid as he took the mound for the first time since April 11, allowing only one run over five innings.

“I thought he was fantastic today,” said Aaron Boone. “He came out with energy despite some recent tough outings in Triple-A. Today, he was very sharp, hitting his spots well.”

Boone added, “He showed command on both sides of the plate. His sinker, cutter, and various breaking balls kept hitters guessing, and he gave us everything we needed.”

Stroman breezed through the first inning, but the second had a tense moment when Max Muncy was briefly helped after leaving the box, though he returned to play. The Athletics managed to get a runner into scoring position with a walk and a single, but a double play by rookie Jacob Wilson ended the threat.

In the fourth inning, Stroman issued two walks, and in the fifth, he gave up a solo home run to Willie Masiver, marking his second homer allowed this season to left field. He ended his outing on a strong note by retiring the next two batters and earned his first win since August 2024, backed by solid Yankee offense.

“I see this as a good stepping stone,” Stroman said. “It’s not the same being off the field—you feel disconnected. Being back with the team is great. This is a fantastic group, and we have the potential to do something special. I’m focused on doing my part and contributing as much as I can.”

Fan Take: Marcus Stroman’s strong return is a major boost for the Yankees and their pitching staff. His performance signals that he could be a key player moving forward, which adds excitement for fans hoping to see their team make a deep postseason run.
