During Thursday’s Media Day at Silverstone Paddock, the main focus was on Max Verstappen’s future in Formula 1. The Red Bull driver faced a packed media center where journalists bombarded him with questions about rumors linking him to Mercedes, especially after Mercedes’ George Russell mentioned his contract extension was delayed due to ongoing negotiations involving Verstappen.

Speculation intensified following Italian reports claiming Verstappen had specific talks with Mercedes and had shown interest in an offer from Toto Wolff. However, Verstappen remained tight-lipped, refusing to fuel the rumors, stating that nothing has changed since last week and dismissing the idea of switching teams.

When asked about the upcoming 2026 regulations and their impact, Verstappen expressed his commitment to Red Bull, saying, "That’s why I’m signing with Red Bull." Yet, he was cautious about confirming his plans for next year and emphasized that no decisions had been made, focusing instead on the present and working with his current team.

There was also much curiosity about Verstappen’s contract, particularly regarding exit clauses that might allow him to leave Red Bull early if certain performance conditions aren’t met. Details remain unclear, with some reports suggesting he’d need to rank outside the top positions in the World Championship by summer’s end to activate such clauses. Additionally, Sky Sports revealed a hefty buyout fee possibly exceeding £100 million. Verstappen declined to comment on contract specifics.

As for taking a break from F1, Verstappen dismissed the idea outright, affirming his desire to continue racing and explore various motorsport challenges without stepping away from Formula 1.
