Elliott’s Thrilling Charge: From 8th to 1st in Final 10 Laps to Conquer Atlanta

Chase Elliott’s hopes of winning at his home track seemed to diminish after 10 laps when he fell to eighth place as Ford cars dominated the front. Zane Smith was leading, hunting his first career victory, but despite not all top drivers winning in 2025, Elliott made strategic moves over the last 15 miles to regain the lead and ultimately clinch the win.

Elliott initially drove in the outer lane but swiftly moved up to seventh while the leaders stayed grouped. His teammate Alex Bowman battled for the lead, observing Elliott struggle near Chris Boucher. Lacking space inside, Elliott nudged past Hocheval’s No. 77 car. Bowman and Smith traded the lead multiple times as Elliott fought to move up by passing Josebal from the inside. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. made a daring three-wide pass to join the lead battle. Bowman was eventually blocked, allowing Elliott to pass three cars and enter the top five.

Brad Keselowski surged into the lead as Elliott and Bowman split through Smith. This was a critical moment since Smith was the only other Ford alongside Keselowski at the front, making alliances crucial due to RFK Racing’s lack of support. Smith pushed back but Elliott firmly defended the outside. With three laps left, Elliott made a bold three-wide pass, reminiscent of Stenhouse’s earlier move, clearing two drivers in one corner and locking in the runner-up spot alongside Tyler Reddick. Bowman supported Elliott as they closed in on Keselowski, who blocked aggressively in turn 3. Elliott momentarily fell back behind Reddick but found a gap to pass him with two laps remaining.

As the final laps unfolded, Bowman helped clear a path for Elliott by moving past Reddick and maintaining pressure on Keselowski. When the white flag flew, Elliott received a push from a teammate and maneuvered inside Keselowski, who could only try to block without success. Bowman kept second place busy, allowing Elliott to pull away and win, ending a 44-race winless streak.

Post-race, Keselowski expressed frustration but recognized the tough competition from the front runners. Bowman admitted needing to avoid leading to maximize the team’s chances. Reddick reflected on his mistakes in the closing laps and his missed opportunity for victory.

Fan Take: This thrilling comeback by Chase Elliott illustrates the fierce competition and thrilling strategy that makes NASCAR so captivating for fans. Elliott breaking his long winless streak at his home track not only energizes his team but also rekindles excitement and hope for an intense season ahead.
