Jenson Button Names F1’s “Toughest Teammates” Who Just Can’t Be Rattled

2009 Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button regards Oscar Piastri as the toughest teammate because he remains unfazed under pressure. Currently leading the 2025 F1 driver standings ahead of the UK’s Grand Prix, Piastri, an Australian, holds a 15-point lead over his teammate Lando Norris in the championship.

Piastri has secured more wins than Norris, who has recently been prone to errors. While Norris is generally seen to have a slight edge in raw speed, Piastri’s composed demeanor makes him a strong contender. Speaking on Sky’s F1 show after Friday’s FP2 session, Button applauded Piastri’s ability to bounce back after difficult weekends, stating, “Oscar comes back strong and stays very calm. For me, he’s the toughest teammate since you can’t rattle him.”

Button also acknowledged Norris’s speed, noting both drivers have their strengths and weaknesses. Norris showcased his speed recently at the Austrian Grand Prix by outpacing the pole time by over half a second, demonstrating his strong form on the short Red Bull Ring circuit, where he had previously struggled in 2025. Last year, Norris dominated qualifying against Piastri with a 20-4 advantage, but this year, Piastri leads narrowly at 6-5 in Grand Prix qualifiers.

Despite the statistics, former F1 driver David Coulthard believes that Piastri does not match Norris’s one-lap pace. After Austria, Coulthard commented, “I don’t think he has Norris’s raw speed on a single lap.”

Fan Take: This intense rivalry between Piastri and Norris is thrilling for racing fans, as it showcases the blend of raw speed and mental resilience crucial in F1. Their ongoing battle could push both drivers to new heights and make the 2025 season one of the most exciting in recent memory.
