Noia Slams Donnaruma Following Mujara’s Injury Setback

Bayern Munich’s goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has taken aim at Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma after Bayern midfielder Jamal Musiala sustained a severe left leg injury during their quarterfinal match at the Club World Cup. The injury occurred in the second half, following a 50-50 challenge with Donnarumma.

After successfully claiming the ball, the Italian keeper knelt down, visibly shaken upon realizing the extent of Musiala’s injury. Medical staff quickly brought out a stretcher to assist Musiala off the field.

No replays of the incident were shown on the big screen at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Following the match, Bayern’s sports director, Max Eberl, confirmed that Musiala was taken to the hospital.

Neuer expressed his thoughts to reporters via Sky Germany, stating, “You shouldn’t challenge that way. It’s dangerous, and it shows a disregard for the safety of opponents.” He added, “I approached him and asked if he was alright. I hope he made the right choice.”

Donnarumma later shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, conveying his concern for Musiala and wishing him a swift recovery. “All my prayers and wishes are with you,” he wrote, alongside a photo of himself looking distraught.

Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany commented on the situation, saying, “It didn’t look good. The footage hinted at possible ankle damage, but I’m not a doctor.” He noted his frustration over the event, emphasizing the negative impact on a player who loves the game and is crucial to the team.

Musiala, 22, who is also a key player for the German national team, had already scored three goals in the tournament, which brought his season total to 20—12 in the Bundesliga and three in the Champions League. His injury came just before halftime, leading to his replacement by Serge Gnabry, with the match score still at 0-0.

Despite playing with only nine men after red cards were issued to Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez, PSG emerged victorious with a 2-0 win and advanced to the semifinals. PSG’s Désiré Doué remarked, “It’s part of football, and we wish Jamal a successful recovery,” while defender Achraf Hakimi offered his support as well.

Musiala was hailed as the German national team’s Player of the Year for 2024 and was a runner-up for the Golden Boy Award in 2023. Debuting for Bayern at the age of 17 in 2020, he became the youngest player in the club’s history. In 2022, he made headlines as the first teenager to represent Germany in the World Cup since 1958.

With Musiala potentially sidelined, Bayern might face challenges heading into the next season, particularly in midfield, as they have already lost Florian Wirtz to Liverpool. Eberl stated, “We’ll figure out a plan moving forward.”

This report incorporates information from ESPN’s Lizzy Becherano and the Associated Press.

**Fan Take:** This incident highlights the precarious nature of player safety in soccer. Injuries like Musiala’s not only impact individual careers but also the dynamics of teams competing at high levels, making such concerns increasingly critical for fans and players alike.
