Alex Paulo’s Uncommon Misspe Gift Spurs Scott Dixon’s Victory at Mid-Ohio: “Silly Mistakes”

Scott Dixon claimed his first win of the season by outpacing teammate Alex Palou on the road course. Palou, who seemed on track for his seventh IndyCar victory this season, made a rare error on lap 85 of the 90-lap race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, allowing Dixon to pull ahead while conserving fuel and ultimately secure the win.

This mistake was unusual for Palou, who has won six of the first ten races and still manages to keep a commanding 113-point lead over Kyle Kirkwood with seven races left. Reflecting on the error, Palou admitted, “It’s a stupid mistake… No one can take responsibility for me. It’s a tough pill to swallow.”

Dixon’s victory marks his first in over a year, bringing his career total to 59 wins and continuing his incredible streak of winning in 21 consecutive seasons, having earned six series titles. “It was a challenging race,” Dixon said, giving credit to his Chip Ganassi Racing team and describing the win as a joy.

Palou finished second but remains a strong contender for the fourth series title for Chip Ganassi Racing. Christian Lundgaard finished third, followed by Colton Herta in fourth and Pato O’Ward in fifth.

Bob Pockrass, a veteran motorsports reporter with decades of experience covering events including the Daytona 500, provided this coverage for Fox Sports.

Fan Take: This victory by Dixon underscores his enduring skill and competitiveness in IndyCar, making the season exciting as he challenges Palou’s dominance. For NASCAR fans, Dixon’s resilience is a reminder of the passion and longevity that keeps motorsports thrilling across series.
