Results from Wednesday’s FIFA Club World Cup

Manchester City 2, Wydad AC 0

Phil Foden opened the scoring just two minutes into the match, giving Manchester City an early lead. Although Wydad AC held their own for much of the first half, Jeremy Dock extended City’s advantage right before halftime. Despite late entrances from Erling Haaland and Rodri, Wydad’s strong defensive play kept City from converting further opportunities. City controlled possession with 70% and outshot their opponents 14-11 (5-2 on target).

Real Madrid 1, Al Hilal 1

A dramatic 99th-minute twist saw Real Madrid end in a 1-1 draw with Al Hilal as Group H kicked off in Miami. Real Madrid faced a disappointing conclusion after Federico Valverde missed a late penalty that could have secured the win. The scoring opened in the first half with Gonzalo Garcia and Saudi player Reuben Neves each finding the net, but the second half saw no additional goals. Al Hilal edged possession at 45% compared to Real Madrid’s 43%, even though the Spanish side attempted 20 shots to Al Hilal’s 13.
