Kylian Mbappé missed the initial match of Real Madrid’s Club World Cup on Wednesday due to an illness, with the team not offering further updates on his condition. On Thursday, they revealed that he had been hospitalized with acute gastroenteritis.

The 26-year-old forward reportedly started feeling unwell on Monday, which led to him skipping team practice on Tuesday. Despite this, the team remained hopeful about his participation in the match on Wednesday. Real Madrid’s coach, Xabi Alonso, indicated on Tuesday that they would “wait until the very end” to make a decision regarding Mbappé, as reported by Athletics.

After Wednesday’s game, which ended in a 1-1 draw against Al Hilal, Alonso suggested that Mbappé’s condition might be more serious than initially thought. He expressed uncertainty about whether Mbappé would be fit to play in the upcoming match against Pachuca.

Real Madrid has not provided a specific timeline for Mbappé’s recovery.

Acute gastroenteritis presents symptoms similar to gastric influenza, but it’s a distinct condition that involves stomach upset, vomiting, and inflammation of the stomach and intestines.

During his debut season with Real Madrid, Mbappé scored 43 goals in 56 matches, earning both the Pichi Trophy and the European Golden Shoe.
