Spieth previously said he woke up in the morning with a pain in his neck. He tried to get over the pain, but eventually retreated after hitting a tee shot on the 13th hole.

“It was a strange neck cramp that just showed up, so I couldn’t get through the round,” Spieth said in “Up and Adams.” “It was a strange deal. There’s a good team here that we work with. I knew it would be short-lived.

“I was back to full strength and preparing for next week’s Open Championship. After that, there will be the playoffs. So there are a lot of big events left, but yeah, I have no limits.”

Injuries have been worrisome to former No. 1 golfers in the world for the past few years. At the end of last summer, Spieth had surgery in 2017 to resolve the persistent wrist injury that first began to bother him.

Spieth hinted that this will be his second time playing the Open at Royal Potrush. When the Open was last played here (2019), Spieth finished the T20 behind champion Shane Laurie.
