NHL Trade Buzz: Can the Blackhawks Land These 3 Game-Changers?

The Chicago Blackhawks might become a notable team to watch in the upcoming trade market. As they continue to shape their roster, moving players who are not viewed as long-term fixtures is understandable.

Here are three Blackhawks players who could be on the trade block:

Conor Murphy
Conor Murphy has been frequently mentioned in trade rumors and is likely to remain so this offseason. He is in the last year of his contract, making him a potentially valuable asset for the Blackhawks if they decide to trade him.

NHL teams highly value a large right-shot defenseman, which Murphy is. Teams seeking experienced and reliable defensemen could benefit from adding Murphy, whether in the summer or during the season. Over his last 68 games with Chicago, Murphy has tallied two goals, 19 points, 117 hits, and 160 blocks.

Lucas Reichel
Lucas Reichel has struggled to advance with the Blackhawks, making the 23-year-old winger a trade candidate. With several promising young forwards in the system, it’s uncertain whether the 2020 first-round pick fits into Chicago’s long-term plans.

Reichel played in 70 games this season, scoring eight goals, 22 points, and carrying a minus-16 rating. While Chicago might keep him to see if he improves next year, they would understand trading him to give him a fresh opportunity elsewhere.

Ilya Mikheyev
The Blackhawks acquired Ilya Mikheyev in the offseason via a salary cap dump trade with the Vancouver Canucks. The move proved fruitful as the 30-year-old forward set career highs with 20 goals and 34 points in 80 games.

Mikheyev’s strong season may attract interest if the Blackhawks decide to trade him. He is an effective top-nine, two-way winger who provides valuable secondary scoring and would be a solid addition for teams needing wing depth. Mikheyev is also entering the final year of his contract and could become an unrestricted free agent next summer, adding to his appeal.

Fan Take: This potential trade activity from the Blackhawks is significant for hockey fans as it signals a strategic rebuilding effort by a storied franchise. Moves involving players like Murphy, Reichel, and Mikheyev could reshape team dynamics and impact competitive balance in the NHL.
