The All-Star event culminates a mini-festival that also includes the Futures Game, the amateur draft starting on July 13th, and the Home Run Derby, which takes place on the night of July 14th.

Fan voting determined the starters, with Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge and two-way star Shohei Ohtani receiving the highest votes in their leagues, allowing them to bypass the second phase of voting. The remainder of the roster was chosen by players and coaches.

Notably, 21 players on the roster are under 26 years old, with the youngest being 22-year-old Washington Nationals slugger James Wood. On the more veteran side, left-hander Clayton Kershaw, a future Hall of Famer and recent 3,000-strikeout achiever, will make his 11th All-Star appearance. Commissioner Rob Manfred named Kershaw “The Legendary Pick,” an honor also given to Albert Pujols and Miguel Cabrera in 2022. At 37, Kershaw is the oldest All-Star this year.

The lead all teams with five selections, followed by the Detroit Tigers leading the American League with four. Every one of the 30 MLB teams has at least one player represented.

The National League team will be managed by the ’ Dave Roberts, fresh off a World Series win, while the American League will be led by Yankees manager Aaron Boone. Both managers will select their starting pitchers.
