Sophie Cunningham Set to Authentically Rejoin Kate Linklark’s Indiana Fever Roster

Sophie Cunningham has played a crucial role in bringing Caitlyn Clark back to the Indiana Fever lineup. After missing five games due to a groin injury, Clark has finally returned, with Cunningham and the team welcoming their key point guard back.

However, the comeback match ended in disappointment as the Fever lost 80-61 to the Golden State Valkyries, led by Kayla Thornton, on Wednesday afternoon. Clark showed some rust in her first game since June 24, scoring 10 points on 4 of 12 shooting, along with five rebounds and six assists. Head coach Stephanie White started Ahri McDonald alongside Clark in the backcourt for the first time.

Despite the setback, the Fever’s 2025 season stands at a balanced 5-5 record. They achieved notable success during Clark’s absence, including a win against Clark’s team and a Commissioner Cup Championship. Indiana also enjoyed a three-game winning streak, highlighted by a 27-point victory over the Las Vegas Aces.

In a Thursday practice session, Cunningham spoke to the media about the team’s efforts to find consistency. She emphasized the changes the team must make with Clark back in the lineup. "We found our rhythm when Kate was injured, and our offense clicked," Cunningham said. "Now with Clark back, we have to adjust because she brings a unique energy to the game. We understand the potential of this team but need to stay focused."

Cunningham also addressed the frustration over their recent loss. "We have many games coming up, and it’s a tight schedule," she said. "It’s important we recover well and take care of our bodies despite the tough situations. We’re all a bit frustrated, but we’re pushing forward."
