Najee Harris, Agent Reports Eye Injury in Fireworks Accident

LOS ANGELES – Najee Harris, a running back for the Los Angeles Chargers, sustained an eye injury during a fireworks incident on July 4, according to his agent Doug Hendrickson, who spoke to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Hendrickson described the injury as “superficial,” with Harris expected to be ready for the upcoming NFL season. The accident involved several attendees, and the San Francisco Chronicle reported that one person was hospitalized after losing a finger in a related incident in Antioch, California.

Harris joined the Chargers on a one-year deal in March, bringing a crucial presence to the team’s rushing attack. In his absence, the Chargers would need to rely heavily on first-round rookie O’Mallion Hampton. The team hasn’t had a 1,000-yard rusher since Melvin Gordon gained 1,105 yards back in 2017. Despite efforts, the Chargers have struggled to build an effective rushing offense, with last season’s average rushing yards per game (110.7) falling below the league average, even under coach Jim Harbaugh’s leadership.

Najee Harris, known for his physical running style, achieved 1,000 rushing yards in each of his first four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. This style is exactly what Harbaugh hopes will elevate the Chargers’ rushing game in the upcoming season. The Chargers have yet to issue a comment regarding the injury.

Fan Take: This injury news is significant for NFL fans because Najee Harris represents a potential game-changer in revitalizing the Chargers’ rushing attack, something they’ve desperately needed. His recovery and performance could not only impact the Chargers’ success but also add more excitement and competitiveness to the NFL’s running game.
