The 2025 Open Championship will be the final major of the year, starting on July 17th at the Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland. Irishman Shane Raleigh was the last winner hosted by Royal Portrush in 2019, and Northern Ireland’s homeland victory would probably be high on his to-do list of good friend Rory McIlroy as he completed a career golfing grand slam. While Raleigh is listed as a +4100 long shot at the 2025 Open Championship Odds, McIlroy is one of his +750 favorites.
Meanwhile, Scotty Schaeffler is a +470 favorite with the latest UK open odds, while Bryson Deccanbeau is taking the price at +700 to win the final major of the year. Other top 2025 Open Championship candidates include Jon Rahm (+1200), defending champions Xander Schauffele (+2400), and Ludvig Aberg (+1000). 2025 Scotty Schaeffler, Rory McIlroy and Bryson Deccanbeau’s Open Championship Prediction
One Shocker the Models Call for Open Championship 2025: Five-time Major Champion McIlroy stumbled this week and barely cracked the top five. McIlroy was a betting favorite and cheering favorite when the Open Championship returned to the Royal Portrush for the first time since 1951. However, the Northern Irishman had a disappointing show as he missed the cut after filming 79 in the opening round and 65 in the second round.
McIlroy had been at the time for over four years without winning a major championship. And it will be nearly six more years before he finally wins the 2025 Master, ends the drought and completes his career grand slam. However, he has played modestly ever since, playing in just five solo tournaments since his April victory, and not cracking the top five in any of those events.
The model is also locked into predictions from Scotty Schaeffler, who has become a three-time major champion after winning the PGA Championship earlier this year. Schaeffler did not win his first PGA Tour victory at the WM Phoenix Open until February 2022, but he rose to No. 1 in the world rankings later that season. Just 41 months later, he is currently a 16-time PGA Tour winner and a three-time major champion.
However, Open Championship Golf has become a test for the Americans. With four career starts in golf’s oldest majors, Schaeffler hasn’t finished better than the T-7, finishing outside the top 20 in two attempts. He also cooled a bit since recording his third victory of the season in the Memorial Tournament, finishing a T-7 at the US Open and a T-6 at the Travelers Championship.
Meanwhile, the model explored the possibility of Bryson Deccanbeau getting his third major. The 31-year-old has accumulated 14 victories from around the world. He helped modernize the game in one or more ways with a single-length club, analytical style and an army of social media followers. He has also become one of the biggest major championship threats in golf, earning six top-six finishes and two major victories in the majors in his final three seasons.
However, he is away from the cuts missed at the US Open and is also struggling to adapt to Link Golf. He missed cuts in three of his seven careers in the Open Championship, and was a pretty T-8 in 2022, but only had one top 25 finish. Check out the full open championship predictions from the model here.
