Diana Taurasi Joins Forces: A New Member Enters the Elite WNBA Club

Diana Taurasi is no longer the sole member of the elite WNBA club for scoring over 8,000 points in a career, a milestone originally highlighted by Athlon Sports.

For many years, Taurasi stood alone as the only player to surpass 8,000 points, amassing a record 10,646 points throughout her 20-year career. She retired after the 2024 season, having played exclusively for the Phoenix Mercury. Widely regarded as the greatest of all time in women’s basketball, her status remains unparalleled.

However, on Friday, Tina Charles of the Connecticut Sun joined Taurasi in this exclusive club by scoring 20 points against the Seattle Storm, breaking past the 8,000-point threshold. Charles entered the game with 7,990 points and now has a total of 8,010 career points. Although the Sun lost the game 79-65, Charles’ achievement was a significant highlight.

The WNBA and fans celebrated Charles’ milestone on social media with messages like “TC’s 8K,” acknowledging her as only the second player in league history to reach 8,000 points.

Looking ahead, only two other active players are nearing this accomplishment. DeWanna Bonner of the Phoenix Mercury ranks third on the all-time scoring list with 7,553 points, while Seattle Storm’s Nneka Ogwumike is seventh with 6,858 points. No other active players are within the top ten scorers.

Fan Take: This milestone is a huge moment for WNBA fans, showcasing the evolving talent and longevity in the league. Tina Charles joining Diana Taurasi in the 8,000-point club not only honors past legends but also inspires the next generation to aim higher, signaling exciting growth for the sport.
