Lionel Messi further etched his name in MLS history on Saturday, adding to his record winning streak in the Multigoal Games by netting two goals in a 2-1 triumph against Nashville SC.

Last week, Messi made headlines by becoming the first player in MLS to score multiple goals in four straight league matches, and he extended that streak to five on Saturday, contributing to Miami’s fifth consecutive victory.

Messi currently shares the lead in the MLS scoring chart, having tallied 16 goals in just 15 matches this season, level with Nashville’s Sam Salridge.

His first goal came from a well-placed free kick in the 17th minute, successfully beating both the Nashville wall and goalkeeper Joe Willis with a low left-footed shot that found the bottom corner.

This marked Messi’s 69th direct free-kick goal and his sixth goal for Miami, achieving this feat in only his sixth MLS appearance.

Messi’s second goal arrived in the 62nd minute when he capitalized on a misplaced pass from Willis, deftly maneuvering the ball around the Nashville goalkeeper before slotting it home.

This achievement marks the first time Messi has scored in five consecutive league matches with multiple goals since his six-game run at Barcelona in La Liga.

Despite a couple of games missed due to competing in the FIFA Club World Cup, Miami remains close in the Eastern Conference race against leaders Philadelphia Union and FC Cincinnati.

ESPN research contributed to this report.

Fan Take: This news is significant for soccer enthusiasts as it highlights Messi’s ongoing dominance in MLS, showcasing his ability to perform at an elite level in a new league. His accomplishments could elevate the profile of soccer in the U.S., inspiring more fans and players alike.
