The NHL offseason has progressed with most teams finalizing their core rosters by mid-July, raising the question of which team boasts the best forwards, defensemen, and goaltenders. Initially, we reviewed the top five defensive teams, and now we turn our attention to ranking the five best forward lineups. The selection is based on elite primary scoring, strong secondary contributions, defensive commitment, role advancement, and overall team chemistry.

Here is our updated ranking with the newly added rosters:

  1. Florida Panthers
Forwards: Aleksander Barkov, Matthew Tkachuk, Carter Henn, Sam Bennett, Sam Reinhart, Evan Rodrigues, Anton Lundell, Eetu Luostarinen, AJ Greer, Tomas Nosek, Jonah Gadjovich
Coming off their Stanley Cup victory, the Panthers retained all their key forwards, including re-signing veteran center Sam Bennett and winger Brad Marchand to team-friendly deals. Their forwards demonstrate top-tier two-way skills with Barkov and Reinhart, gritty clutch performances from Tkachuk, Bennett, and Marchand, and speed throughout their lineup. Florida’s forwards consistently apply pressure with their forecheck and control the crease, showing impressive scoring depth with nine forwards recording at least 15 points in 23 games—remarkably more balanced than other contenders like the Oilers.

  2. Tampa Bay Lightning
Forwards: Brayden Point, Pontus Holmberg, Conor Garland
Despite a first-round exit by the Panthers last playoffs, Tampa Bay remains a scoring powerhouse with the league’s top goal tally, strong penalty killing, and four forwards averaging over a point per game, alongside superstar Victor Hedman. Mid-season acquisitions like Bjorkstrand have reinforced their depth, making the Lightning a strong and skilled forward group once again, respected for their ability to dominate in the offensive zone.

  3. Colorado Avalanche
Forwards: Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog, Artturi Lehkonen, Valeri Nichushkin, Brock Nelson, Martin Kaut, Ross Colton, Jack Drury, Parker Kelly, Ivan Ivan, TJ Tynan, Nikita Pryschepov
The Avalanche maintain elite talent at the top lines with MacKinnon-led skill, balanced by a quick and reliable bottom six. The recent contract extension of Brock Nelson strengthens their center depth, ensuring Colorado remains highly competitive. Despite losing veterans like Jonathan Drouin, their forward group is deep, poised for another strong season.

  4. Dallas Stars
Forwards: Roope Hintz, Jason Robertson, Mikko Rantanen, Matt Duchene, Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn, Wyatt Johnston, Mavrik Bourque, Oskar Back, Radek Faksa, Sam Steel, Colin Blackwell
The Stars continue to impress with offensive depth and two-way forward talent. Their mix of youthful energy and experienced leadership gives them a balanced and elite scoring group, complemented by excellent defensive play. Even with some losses, their forward core remains dangerous in scoring and penalty kill effectiveness.

  5. Vegas Golden Knights
Forwards: Jack Eichel, Mitch Marner, Mark Stone, Ivan Barbashev, William Karlsson, Tomas Hyka, Pavel Dorofeyev, Riley Smith, Brett Howden, Brandon Pirri, Colton Sissons, Keegan Kolesar
The Golden Knights strengthened their already dynamic lineup by acquiring Mitch Marner and solidifying their fourth line with Colton Sissons. Their forward group combines strong offensive creativity with solid defensive work, making Vegas a balanced, depth-rich team poised to compete for another Stanley Cup.

Honorable Mentions: Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Winnipeg Jets
While not cracking the top five, these teams boast strong forward groups. The Maple Leafs’ top six is formidable despite losing Marner, and the Oilers rely heavily on superstars McDavid and Draisaitl, supplemented by skilled forwards who contributed significantly to their playoff runs. The Jets retain core talents but have been impacted by recent departures. All three could contend for higher rankings based on future offseason adjustments.

Fan Take: This analysis highlights how crucial depth and balance are for NHL forwards beyond just star power. For hockey fans, it signals exciting battles ahead as teams with well-rounded offensive units are likely to lead the charge, promising thrilling, high-paced action in the upcoming season.
