Jonathan Lear experienced strong vibrations during Race 2 at the UK World Superbike event, which he described as a significant issue, while Leah blamed his 15th-place finish in the same race. Leah, who missed the first three rounds of the season due to an ankle injury sustained in preseason testing, had previously achieved a seventh-place finish in the Misano Super Pole race ahead of the Donington World Superbike weekend.
At Donington, Leah performed much better, qualifying fourth on the second row and securing a top-six finish in both Race 1 and the Super Pole Race. However, Race 2 proved to be much more challenging.
Leah said, “It’s unfortunate how the weekend ended. From Friday afternoon, the team worked incredibly hard to deliver a strong performance on Saturday. This morning, I rode well in the Super Pole Race and had a great battle with Andrea Locatelli.”
He added, “But in Race 2, I noticed a problem at the front of the bike during the warm-up lap as I felt significant vibrations when braking. I wasn’t completely sure of the cause—I thought it might be heat affecting the calipers or that it would improve during the race, but it didn’t. The issue worsened as the rear grip decreased mid-race, making it very difficult to brake effectively.”
Rea remained optimistic despite the struggles, stating that there were still positives to take from the weekend. “We didn’t ruin the weekend that much. From here, things can only improve. I appreciate all the team’s hard work, especially in such hot conditions. Luckily, we won’t have to wait long to head back to Balaton in a few weeks.”
Fan Take: This update is crucial for racing fans because it highlights the resilience and determination of riders and teams in the face of unexpected technical challenges.
