Former Pittsburgh Penguins goaltending prospect Calle Clang has re-signed with the Anaheim Ducks.

On Wednesday, the 23-year-old goalie agreed to a one-year, two-way contract to remain with the Ducks. Clang was traded to Anaheim on March 21, 2022, in a deal that also involved forwards Zack Aston-Reese, Dominic Simon, and a 2022 second-round draft pick moving to the Ducks in exchange for scoring winger Rickard Rakell heading to Pittsburgh.

Drafted 77th overall by the Penguins in 2020, Clang posted an 11-13-4 record with the AHL’s San Diego Gulls last season, conceding an average of 3.17 goals per game and maintaining a save percentage of .895. Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 195 pounds, he has career AHL stats of a 3.16 goals-against average and a .896 save percentage over 68 games.

Fan Take: This signing is significant for hockey fans as it underscores the Ducks’ faith in developing young talent in the crease, potentially heralding a new era for their goaltending depth. For the sport, it highlights the ongoing importance of nurturing promising prospects to build competitive teams.
