  • Arsenal is trying to further strengthen their front line
  • Why can Rodrigo become Arsenal’s best left winger since Alexis?
        • Gyokeres’ dream: Arsenal chases “one of the 10 bests in the world”

The elusive centre forward hasn’t arrived yet, but it’s no doubt a great summer for Arsenal in the transfer market.

With Andrea Berta here, there’s no hesitation like edu from the recruitment team. He is stamping on a gunner.

With the movement to ring in the background, the Mikel Artta sides made Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard, Martin Zubengdi and Noni Maduke theirs.

Still, they are not happening there. It feels like a matter of time before Gyoker became an Armory player and completed his media duties before the new centre-back in the shape of Crishian Mosquera was announced.

However, another winger may arrive before the deadline.

Arsenal is trying to further strengthen their front line

The two biggest rumors this summer were about Ebelech Eze and Rodrigo.

Eze, who once at Arsenal Academy, reportedly has already agreed to the gunners and personal terms, but a club-to-club talk has not yet been held between the North Londoners and Crystal Palace.

His £68 million release clause could be activated if the attacker moves to Emirates Stadium.

But what about Rodrigo? Well, this saga appears to last until the second half of the window.

The Brazilian played in just 92 minutes this summer’s Club World Cup, so Xabi Alonso wanted to move him from Real Madrid.

Arsenal was at the table for a while, but Liverpool joined in the race. However, Spanish reports show that gunners are now trying to steal a march with the Reds.

These reports suggest that Arteta considers Rodrigo as “an ideal player to strengthen his left flank,” and as a result, they are preparing a bid of 80 million euros (£70 million) to take him to London. It’s unlikely to be accepted as Madrid set the asking price at 100 million euros (£87 million).

Why can Rodrigo become Arsenal’s best left winger since Alexis?

The center forward position at Arsenal has been a problem for two years, but perhaps the wide left position on Arteta’s side.

Gabriel Martinelli scored 15 Premier League goals in 2022/23, but since then he has not scored more than eight points in a single league campaign. As for Leandro Trossard, he found the net on the 17th in 2023/24, but as far as the league goals are concerned, it was an inconsistent term for the Belgians in 2024/25.

Certainly, the former Brighton winger scored just eight points on the top flight, leading to concerns about the overall composition of Arsenal’s offense.

It feels like it was a long time ago as the gunners controlled Alexis Sanchez on his left flank. Like Trossard, he was also featured as a major center forward, but his quality far surpassed both him and Martinelli.

Throwing my mind back to 2016/17, I recall how magical the Chileans were and score 24 Premier League goals. In all competitions, he found the net 30 times and also supplied 18 assists.

This is a number that Arsenal forward player has never seen since Sanchez. Even Bukayosaka doesn’t enjoy a very good season.

Well, Rodrigo might be the type of winger who can emulate Alexis in north London. Like Chilean International, he arrived at the Emirates, who played the second fiddle in some major names in Spanish football.

Sanchez moved to Arsenal in the shadow of Lionel Messi and the bat, but Rodrigo is firmly behind the likes of Killian Mbappe and Vinni Jr.

But his quality is obvious to everyone. In 2022/23 he scored 19 goals in all competitions, with a splendid dribbling ability similar to the club’s previous No. 17.

Getting some of the data from the best individual seasons of both players’ careers makes for a clear difference, especially in terms of output.

That said, they create the same number of big opportunities, their dribbling is so much, with Rodrigo only down 0.4 in terms of success rate.

For Rubberstamp, the Madrid star ranked in the top 20% of positionally similar players in Europe’s top five leagues last year, earning a top 14% in progressive carry.

Carries are considered progressive if the ball moves from the starting point towards the opponent’s goal at least 10 yards or more, or is carried into the penalty area.

As for evidence, Brazil International is a fascinating star, and although he still doesn’t quite match up with his goals and assists, he’s only 24 years old. There’s still plenty of time left for him to grow.
