Manchester United have always pursued the moves of Brentford star Brian Mbeumo throughout the summer window, but their persistence seems to have finally paid off.

The Red Devils have managed to agree to a deal with the 25-year-old forward bee in a move that could reach up to £710 million if they reach all add-ons in the future.

It can’t be denied that it’s a big price for a player who only had one top-level season in the Premier League, but it highlights the ambitions that this window shows.

Cameroon International has registered 20 league goals more than twice as many players on the side of Reuben Amorim, which ended its 2024/25 campaign.

However, despite agreeing to such a positively large sum, the hierarchy appears to continue the hunt for additional enhancements, including the signature of one player, which proves to be a better addition than the addition of Mbeumo.

The latest on United Hunt for new additions from United this summer

Emiliano Martínez is one of United’s prominent signatures signed at the market this summer, with Aston Villa’s shot stopper available for a fee in the region, which costs just £21 million.

It has been reported that the players themselves are keen to travel to Old Trafford and may be able to take advantage of the villa PSR status.

However, according to Sport Via Sport Witness, RB Leipzig Star Xavi Simons appeared on the radar, with another player appearing as a potential target for Red Devils during the offseason.

They claim that the tops from United have already met with representatives from the Netherlands International on the possibility of transfers before the September 1 deadline.

They also state that they are not alone in the 22-year-old hunt, and Chelsea has also closed out firmly in his signature race, with a price tag of £60 million under discussion.

Why United’s £60 million target will be better signed than Mbeumo

Given the tally of goals last season, it’s no surprise that Mbeumo’s deal will thrill the fanbase and pass on the clinical talent that has been missing in the attacking area since it arrived at Amorim.

However, the 25-year-old had a broad and right role, mainly at Brentford last season. This is a position that cannot be occupied at Old Trafford, given the manager’s 3-4-2-1 system.

It has already been confirmed that he will not be used as a striker, and the Cameroonian will play in one of two numbers of ten positions behind the striker, and is partnering with Matthew Cunya in potentially offering merchandise.

Such a transaction has proven to be a risk, spending serious money on the player, taking advantage of him in a slightly unfamiliar role, taking into account other options available especially this summer.

As seen in their attempts to persuade Simmons to join the club, the club targets countless options, and the Dutch have far greater talent than Mbeumo.

He was a young star and could then explode into elite-level talent over the coming years, even a cheap deal given the £60 million valuation placed on his shoulder by the Bundesliga outfit.

However, comparing his statistics with the pending new arrival statistics, he highlighted why he could outweigh him in multiple areas and why he would sign more of Amorim’s system.

Labeled as “superficial” by Optajohan, Simons may have been outscore, but they were able to post better goals per shot at target ratings than Mbeumo.

Leipzigster’s dominance remains unstoppable, completing more take-ons per 90, highlighting the ability he has at his feet with the ball, and United will soon offer more threats than the £71 million signature.

Given the differences in the numbers generated and the price tags between pairs, it is clear that the deal with Simmons will be a better signature for the Red Devils this summer.

Both players have many talents, but ultimately, if the club reaches the next level in the coming years, they will need to make the right phone call in the market.
