SINGAPORE – Mikel Arteta expressed confidence that Arsenal is adhering to the proper protocols “100%” following the news that midfielder Thomas Partey faces five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
Partey’s departure from the club came shortly after his contract ended this month, just four days prior to his charges being announced by the Crown Prosecutor’s Service.
He denies all allegations made by three women concerning incidents that occurred between 2021 and 2022.
The player was initially arrested on suspicion of rape in July 2022, launching a police investigation.
This case was referred to the Crown Prosecutor’s Office in December 2024, while Partey continued to represent Arsenal. In May, Arteta hinted that the club was considering renewing his contract.

After the charges were confirmed, Arsenal stated, “The player’s contract concluded on June 30th. Due to ongoing legal proceedings, the club refrains from commenting on the matter.”
During Arsenal’s preseason tour kickoff in Singapore, Arteta was asked about the allegations against Partey and responded, “The club has been very clear in that statement.”
When asked if he believed the club was following the right procedures, Arteta affirmed, “100%.”
This news is significant for soccer fans as it underscores the critical need for accountability and due process within the sport. The situation not only affects the reputation of the involved parties but also adjusts the dynamics within the club and the broader football community.
