Liverpool has officially completed the transfer of Hugo Ekikite, securing a deal worth up to £79 million ($166 million) with Eintracht Frankfurt, according to ESPN sources. This agreement consists of an upfront payment of £10 million ($13.4 million), along with additional potential payments totaling £69 million ($92.7 million).

Ekitike has signed a six-year contract and has been authorized to travel to the UK for the finalization of the deal, with a medical examination expected on Tuesday. He is anticipated to join Liverpool for their upcoming Asian preseason tour, beginning Saturday with a match against AC Milan in Hong Kong.

Sources indicate that Ekitike has been eager to join Liverpool, despite interest from Newcastle United and Manchester United. ESPN previously noted that Newcastle had a £64.5 million ($86.3 million) offer turned down by Frankfurt last week, while Liverpool’s inquiry for their star striker, Alexander Isak, was also rejected.

Ekitike has already met with Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, and the transfer follows a successful season in which he netted 15 goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances with Frankfurt. Since joining Frankfurt from Paris Saint-Germain in February 2024, Ekitike has yet to make his debut for the French national team, although his move to Liverpool could enhance his chances of being selected ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Fan Take: This transfer is significant as it not only bolsters Liverpool’s attacking options but also highlights the competitive nature of the Premier League. Ekitike’s potential performance could shift the balance in upcoming matches, making Liverpool a stronger contender for titles and keeping soccer fans on the edge of their seats.
