Manchester United has officially signed forward Brian Mbeumo from Brentford for a reported fee exceeding £70 million ($94 million), according to ESPN.

The 25-year-old has penned a long-term contract and becomes United’s second signing of the summer, following the arrival of striker Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton.

Mbeumo is expected to make his debut during a three-match preseason tour in the US, with Reuben Amorim’s team set to visit Chicago, New York, and Atlanta.

During his six years with Brentford, the Cameroon international netted 70 goals and provided 51 assists in 242 matches.

Manchester United had been in discussions to acquire Mbeumo for several weeks, with sources indicating they believe Brentford values him significantly higher than the £62.5 million spent on Cunha.

There are claims that United are dissatisfied with Brentford’s handling of the negotiations, alleging that the valuation fluctuated dramatically—at one point peaking at £700 million, plus potential add-ons of £7 million.

Some speculate Brentford aimed to influence Mbeumo to favor offers from Newcastle and Tottenham, potentially easing his personal conditions to facilitate a transfer to a larger club.

United were also aware of interest from Arsenal and noted Chelsea’s slower attempts to secure the deal.

Conversely, Brentford’s side suspects that United deliberately negotiated a higher wage with Mbeumo, hoping to finalize a lower transfer fee once official discussions began.
