The Chicago Sky returned from the All-Star break on Tuesday, suffering a 91-68 defeat to the league-leading Minnesota Lynx, marking their fourth matchup against the Lynx this season. This loss dropped Chicago’s record to 7-16, making their playoff aspirations increasingly challenging.

Angel Reese, the team’s standout forward and sole All-Star, has been a rare highlight for the Sky. In her rookie season, she averaged 13.8 points, 12.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. During the Minnesota game, Reese extended her streak to ten consecutive double-doubles, recording 11 points and 11 rebounds. However, she faced some difficulties, committing a season-high nine turnovers, and the game took a controversial turn when she received her seventh technical foul of the season after protesting a no-call.

The technical foul sparked immediate outrage among WNBA fans on social media, many questioning the fairness of the call and accusing the officials of suppressing Reese’s assertiveness. Reese is now just one technical foul away from a one-game suspension. Fans voiced their frustration with comments suggesting the league is unfairly targeting her and criticizing the referees’ decisions.

Last season, players were suspended after seven technical fouls, but with the WNBA’s regular season extended from 40 to 44 games this year, the threshold for suspension has been raised to eight technical fouls. The Sky look to recover from their recent setbacks as they prepare to face the Seattle Storm at home on Thursday.
