Arsenal has officially signed Viktor Gyökeres, the highly sought-after striker from Sporting CP, the club announced on Saturday.
ESPN sources indicate the transfer involved contracts worth €63 million ($74 million) and an additional €10 million ($11.7 million) in performance incentives.
The 27-year-old has committed to a five-year deal in the Premier League, taking on the number 14 shirt at his new club. Arsenal has been on the lookout for new strikers for some time.

Arsenal and Sporting CP have been in discussions for quite a while, with sources suggesting that the delays stem from disagreements over performance-related bonuses.
“We are thrilled to welcome Viktor Gyökeres to our team,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta stated. “His consistent performance and availability are impressive, and his goal-scoring contributions are significant.
“Viktor possesses a wealth of qualities. He is quick and powerful, having made a striking impact both at the club and international levels. His clinical finishing and intelligent positioning make him a constant menace in the box.
“We are eager to see how he will enhance our squad and look forward to working with him. We extend a warm welcome to Viktor and his family as they join Arsenal.”
The Swedish international joins Arsenal with a stellar reputation, having attracted interest from both Manchester United and clubs in Saudi Arabia this summer.
Last season, Gyökeres netted 54 goals across all competitions, making him one of the top scorers from the elite league. Since his transfer from Coventry City in 2023, he has scored 68 league goals in just 66 appearances for Portugal.
He also had successful spells with Swansea City and Brighton & Hove Albion in the English league.
Arsenal’s sporting director, Andrea Berta, noted, “We are thrilled with the exceptional agreement to bring Viktor Gyökeres to our club. He is a remarkable talent with a winning mentality, essential for a top-tier striker.
“We are confident that Viktor will significantly influence our performances and will become a pivotal player in our locker room.”
Gyökeres adds crucial firepower to an Arsenal team that faced challenges with injuries late last season.
Among the injured was Kai Havertz, the only senior striker to be present during Arteta’s preseason tour.
Last season, Gyökeres achieved a 28.1% shot conversion rate in the Primeira Liga, while Arsenal’s strikers managed a conversion rate of 16.5% in the Premier League.
Following the preseason tour with Gyökeres, Arteta is heading to Hong Kong, where the club will face Newcastle in Singapore on Sunday, followed by a match against Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday.
Arsenal has finished second in the Premier League for three consecutive years.

Fan Take: The addition of Gyökeres could significantly shift Arsenal’s dynamics, potentially propelling them toward title contention in the upcoming season. His proven goal-scoring ability not only strengthens the squad but also raises the expectations for Arsenal among its supporters and rivals alike.
