Tim Kuana’s Hot Things: 64th Jacksonville Amateurs Wins by UNF’s Danny Ericsson
Timuquana Country Club held the 64th Jacksonville Area Golf Association Amateur Championship from July 24-26, 2025.
Jacksonville’s Luke Balaskywitz played in his final junior tournament, shooting a 4-under 67 on July 29th at the Ackerman Allen course at the Birk Boyle Maker Golf Complex in West Rafayat, Indiana, three shots in the first round of the Junior PGA Championship.
Ballaskywitz, a Boles alumnus who will be enrolling at the University of North Florida next month, began the round on hole 10, making six pars in a row, and soaking in red figures on No. 16 and No. 18 with birdies.
Balaskiewicz finished runner-up at Jacksonville Amateur.
Douglasville’s Chase Yenser, a Pennsylvania junior win, shot a 7-under 64 to get a first-round lead. Yenser had a bogey-free round and made four of five birdies during one stretch. Balaskiewicz is tied sixth.
Tyler Mawinney chops the par 5 hole
Fleming Island’s Tyler Mawinney birded all three par five holes on the Pete Dye Design course, tied the 69 to 31st place.
Saint Augustine’s Samuelha shot a 76.
In the women’s category, Jacksonville’s Sahana Choxie had three birdies, with a uniform 72 on the Kampen Kosler course. She is tied to the 33rd seven shot behind Taylor Sniville, leader of Ziosville, Indiana.
When will area players tee off in the second round?
Mawinnie, who is in the same group as Woods, will tee off at 7:41am in the second round of the first hole
Balaskiewicz starts at 1st at 2:35pm
Ha starts at 7:57am on Hole 10 and at 12:45pm on the first Choksi Tea.
Cuts will add to the bonds in addition to 60 low players in each division after the second round. There are 54 holes cuts and tie at the low 30.
