As the fight against Manchester United continues to sign Benjamin Sesco, Newcastle United reportedly began contacting Serie this summer to sign an alternative.
Sesco handles Newcastle’s fresh blows
It’s their summer story, but the latest twist on the story and the story is that Sesco reportedly prefers the move to Old Trafford over St. James Park next month. For everyone who has to offer Manchester United recently, RB Leipzig Forward appears to be doomed to join a long list of players to decline their move to Newcastle this summer.
This is a list of rejections Newcastle hadn’t expected before this summer, including Hugo Ekitike, James Trafford and potentially Sesko.
The big question is where the magpies go from here. After endless rejection, the people of St. James Park will return to Square just two weeks before the Premier League campaign begins, once Sesco joins Manchester United.
But before the impressive striker officially makes his decision, Newcastle reportedly aims at at least some equally impressive alternatives.

Newcastle wants to sign No. 9 this summer
Ollie Watkins, for example, is a Newcastle radar player amid Aston Villa’s PSR issues and a desperate need for aggressive enhancement. Furthermore, if Sesko chooses United, Magpies may have come out on their own in the race for Watkins’ signature, given how this summer has disappeared.
However, Aston Villaman is not the only name on the list. Alongside him, Newcastle reportedly placed their sights on the Serie A. Star.
As reported by Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport, Newcastle has now begun contacting Artem Dovbyk to sign from As Roma. The forward reportedly was shown the door at the Serie A club after returning to preseason in the fitness struggle.
As a result, Newcastle, available for just 38 million euros (£33 million), reportedly made its first move for the player selected in the Barondoor Top 30 last season.
League statistics 24/25 (via FBREF) | dovbyk | Sesco |
---|---|---|
Min | 2,418 | 2,380 |
the goal | 12 | 13 |
assist | 2 | 5 |
Expected goals | 11.9 | 10 |
By comparison, it is clear that we will see why Dovbyk has become a Newcastle option. About £40 million cheaper, Ukrainian International was able to offer Eddiehau a similar level of production, offering another forward that surpassed the expected target last season.
However, there are still some concerns to address. Dovbyk’s fitness struggle in the preseason should not be ignored for one. Newcastle will then need to decide whether splashing with younger options will be a smarter plan this summer, even if the immediate output matches or even less than Dovbyk’s.
Dovbyk may have been called “a great finisher” by Italian legend Daniele de Rossi, but Roma Forward will undoubtedly reach his peak at the age of 28, with Newcastle set to aim for a striker with the ability to ultimately reach 20 goals per season.
