🏈 Good morning, especially to…

Trey Hendrickson and the Cincinnati Bengals

While there haven’t been any new transactions yet, there seems to be a shift in the situation between Trey Hendrickson and the Cincinnati Bengals. After months of tension, Hendrickson, who topped the NFL with 17.5 sacks last year, is finally joining today’s training camp, signaling an end to his holdout.

  • As previously noted, Hendrickson’s reporting for duty could indicate progress, even if it’s not a definitive sign of a new contract. His presence is significant and cannot be overlooked.
  • He is attending meetings and engaging with teammates, despite not actively participating in practice. Plus, he has avoided the hefty $50,000 fine he was incurring each day he stayed away.
  • Fortunately, relations between Hendrickson and the team don’t seem overly strained. He recently relocated back to Cincinnati for camp, which suggests a return to cooperation after several months of tension.
  • The Bengals are also resolving their contract issues with first-round pick Shemar Stewart, who recently agreed to his deal and concluded his holdout.

🤕 Not-so-great news this morning…

NFL Injuries

Star players like Justin Jefferson (hamstring strain), Matthew Stafford (back pain), Joe Mixon (foot issues), and Tristan Wirfs (knee surgery) are already sidelined.

With injuries back in play, we need to keep a close watch on these situations. Tyler Sullivan’s Training Camp Injury Panic Meter features…

  • Sullivan: “Jefferson’s Panic Meter: Medium 🚨🚨 – Although CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin noted that Jefferson seemed to be doing well at Vikings training camp on Monday, he hasn’t fully returned yet. Jefferson’s history with hamstring injuries, having missed time last season, makes it vital that he logs consistent practice time.”

For the Vikings, ensuring JJ McCarthy gets as many reps as possible is crucial, considering Jefferson’s current situation. It’s not dire yet, but definitely not ideal.

10 Biggest Wildcards for the 2025 NFL Season

As we edge closer to the NFL season, I’m counting down the days, including the Hall of Fame game countdown. Get ready for a spotlight on Tray Lance as we explore the ten biggest wildcards of the season, which include…

  • Sullivan: Michael Penix Jr. – Though his stats from last season’s end may not impress, he passed the eye test when on the field. The numbers might not capture his potential, but he has something to prove this season.

I have faith in the team’s infrastructure, particularly the coaching staff and key players, which might allow them to find success in the NFC South for the first time since 2016.

New York City Shooting: Suspect Targeted NFL Headquarters

A shooter killed four individuals and injured one during an attack at 345 Park Avenue, which appears to have been aimed at the NFL headquarters, according to New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

  • The assailant, identified as Shane Tamura, entered the lobby on Monday night and opened fire. Among the deceased was Didarul Islam, a non-active NYPD officer.
  • Authorities believe Tamura, who traveled from Las Vegas, intended to reach the NFL offices but mistakenly arrived at the wrong elevator bank, resulting in the tragic incident.

Adams disclosed that Tamura left a note indicating he suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a condition linked to repeated head trauma, and accused the NFL of downplaying the dangers of the sport.

An NFL employee was seriously injured and is currently hospitalized in stable condition. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stated the league’s offices will remain closed through August 8th. A vigil was held on Tuesday evening in Bryant Park in honor of the victims.

⚽ Early Power Rankings for the 2027 Women’s World Cup

As we wrap up an exciting summer of international women’s soccer, England triumphed over Spain in penalty kicks to clinch the Euro 2025 title—a clear indication of the growth in women’s sports, as noted by James Benge.

This summer was also pivotal for the USWNT. Following a disappointing performance in the 2023 World Cup, they secured gold at the 2024 Olympics and have since recorded five consecutive wins, showcasing an influx of young talent. Emma Hayes offers early thoughts on the power rankings for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

  • Herrera: “The early months of this year were crucial for USWNT to showcase their depth post their Olympic victory. Hayes has effectively broadened their roster and focused on building a sustained team identity.”

Here are the top five teams:

  1. USA
  2. England
  3. Spain
  4. Brazil
  5. Germany
