Gabi of Barcelona: “It’s clear Real Madrid has concerns.”

Barcelona midfielder Gavi expressed that he wasn’t shocked to hear that Real Madrid is "worried" about his team’s potential as they approach a new season. Last year, Barcelona had a stellar performance in domestic competitions, winning all four matches against Madrid.

"Naturally, they’re concerned," Gavi told Diario. "We took all four Clasicos, which is unprecedented. It’s understandable for them to feel this way. Last season was fantastic for us, but we didn’t take home any major trophies."

Barcelona claimed titles in La Liga, the Spanish Super Cup, and the Copa del Rey, overcoming their rivals Madrid in both cup finals.

Madrid, on the other hand, ended the previous season without a major trophy for the first time since 2021. In response, they have bolstered their defense by signing Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool, Dean Huizen from Bournemouth, and Alvaro Carreras from Benfica. Additionally, they acquired Argentinian teenager Franco Mastantuono from River Plate under new coach Xabi Alonso, who stepped in after Carlo Ancelotti’s passing.

"This year, they’ve genuinely improved with some top players," Gavi noted. "We’ll have to see how they perform next season. They possess a strong squad, but we need to focus on ourselves."

Barcelona has also made significant additions to their roster. England forward Marcus Rashford has arrived on an in-season loan from Manchester United, while goalkeeper Joan Garcia and teenage winger Rooney Bardozi have made permanent moves from Espanyol and Copenhagen, respectively.

"I’m confident that Garcia and Rashford will contribute greatly," Gavi said. "Rooney (Bardghji) is also doing exceptionally well. I hope they can help us win titles. I’m excited about Marcus joining as he’s an extraordinary talent."

Barcelona is also depending on the prowess of young forward Lamine Yamal, who scored twice in a recent 7-3 victory over FC Seoul during their Asia Tour.

"Yamal is an incredible talent," Gavi remarked. "He improves every day and shows brilliance in training. If he maintains this attitude, he’ll certainly enjoy success, whether this year or in the years to come."

Fan Take: This news highlights the intense rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid, a cornerstone of European soccer that captivates millions globally. The increasing competitiveness and fresh talent in both squads promise an exciting season ahead, ensuring fans remain engaged and passionate about the beautiful game.
