In the second round of the 2025 Wyndham Championship, he scored a low score again at Sedgefield Country Club until the storm swept Greensboro, North Carolina, forced to stop at 4:32pm. Playing will resume on Saturday at 7:30am, with the third round scheduled to begin at 10:30am
Before the play was stopped, Cameron Young was jumping into the lead as he went under 7 on Friday at 15 holes and moved to 14 under for the tournament. Young is about to back up another opening 63 as he continues to search for his first career victory. Near the midpoint of the final event of the 2025 regular season, he is giving himself a great opportunity.
Young got lost a bit on the golf course and missed the cut in six of the first 11 events (passing the master), but since then he found his form in three top 10 and missed one in his final nine starts, including a T4 finish at US Open. It moved him into the top 40 in the FedEx Cup standings, but this week’s victory put him in 16th place, effectively closing out the tour championship spot.
To get there, Aaron Rye will have to hold back the reigning champion as he continues to thrive at Sedgefield and moves to 13 under the Young’s lead under the age of six with 13 holes in the second round. Rye’s victory at Greensboro last year was the first of his career, and he is looking for another slow kick to the playoffs. He started week 58 in the rankings outside the coveted top 50, earning spots in all eight signing events next season. The victory locks it, but even a second-place finish moves him to 40th place, entering the St. Jude Classic.
Right behind Rye, we had a strange season this year, but we love it in Greensboro. Elsewhere in the top 10, Gary Woodland is 9 under at 64, making it suitable for T8. If they can keep it by Sunday, they will make it in the top 70 and earn a playoff spot.
Round 1 leader Joel Dahmen couldn’t go much in the first 10 holes of his second round as he stayed at nine under himself as he was par before the horn exploded on Friday. He wants to regroup overnight and find a birdie to close his rounds and get closer to the leader as he hopes to make a miraculous move into this week’s playoffs.

Cameron Young (-14): Young has approached many times in his career to capture that elusive first victory, and although he appeared to be farther apart than ever before at the start of the year, he bouncing back in an incredible way later in the season. He’s taking advantage of his length from the tee this week. He is second on the field with strokes obtained from the tee, but also enjoys himself on Sedgefield’s first green, ranking third in strokes.

There’s so much golf left to play on courses that have already seen lots of rounds at the low ’60s, but these players are giving them early chances, and they’re all sweating their points positions in addition to trying to win golf tournaments. Rai and Kitayama are about to move to the top 50. IM is about to solidify his spot in the Tour Championship after starting Week 30 and Woodlands. The rest will need to do more to find a path to the playoffs – victory is the only way to guarantee a spot – and sometimes they have a top 100 deep inside their hearts as they try to secure tour cards for next season.
All of this will unfold over the next two days, but it will be a fascinating weekend with plenty of bubble talk, including playoffs, signature events and more.
Big names trying to avoid cutting
Jordan Spieth (-4-14), Adam Scott (-4-14) and Keith Mitchell (-4-14) are all inside the cut line and are fighting to make a weekend back to finish Saturday’s second round. Rickie Fowler (-3) is in the clubhouse and wants the cut to stay at 3 under, but is now correct for the T65 number making weekends. Players who can move that number to 4 under by the second round finish are still 4 under.

Ray was 22-1, so Ray stood out in pre-tournament odds. At this point, I’m not always fond of value at 12/5, and I’ll look a bit down on the 17/2 IM as a player who has a great track record at Wyndham and should be within some leads by the end of the second round.
