Keep an eye on these standout Blackhawks goalie prospects!

The Chicago Blackhawks have several promising prospects in their ranks, with goaltender Drew Commesso being a standout. At 23 years old, many believe Commesso has the potential to become a key figure in the Blackhawks’ future.

Commesso participated in the first two NHL games this season, recording a 0-1-0 record, an .846 save percentage, and allowing an average of 3.36 goals per game. Despite this brief NHL appearance, he spent the majority of the 2024-25 season playing in the AHL for the Rockford IceHogs. In 39 games with Rockford, he posted an 18-15-4 record, a .911 save percentage, and a goals-against average of 2.54.

In the previous 2023-24 season, his first with the AHL club, Commesso played 38 games with a .906 save percentage and a 2.65 goals-against average. As a second-round pick in 2020, he has shown steady development with Rockford over the past year. Moving forward, his aim is to continue progressing to secure more NHL playing time in the 2025-26 season.

Given the current goaltending depth on the Blackhawks roster, it’s likely that Commesso will begin next season back in the AHL. However, if he keeps improving, it could lead to increased opportunities with the NHL team. There’s a strong possibility he could evolve into an outstanding NHL goaltender, making it exciting to see if he can elevate his game in the upcoming season.

Additionally, Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Conor Murphy is entering the final year of his contract, making him a possible trade candidate as the team rebuilds. As a right-shot defenseman, Murphy holds significant value since NHL teams often seek players with his skill set.
