David White, formerly the executive director of SAG-AFTRA, has been appointed as the interim executive director of the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) as of Sunday night. He succeeds Lloyd Howell, who stepped down last month amid various controversies impacting the players’ union.

NFLPA President Jalen Reeves-Maybin expressed confidence in White, highlighting his extensive labor movement experience and dedication to prioritizing players’ interests. White’s appointment came after a thorough, player-led selection process involving voter representatives from all 32 NFL teams, who interviewed multiple candidates over the past two weeks.

White stated his commitment to rebuilding trust and ensuring the union effectively serves its members, focusing on player health, financial security, and amplifying their voices. Reeves-Maybin also announced that a comprehensive search for a permanent executive director will commence soon, emphasizing continued player leadership in the process.

An experienced executive, White has held leadership roles in major entertainment and financial sectors and currently serves as CEO of 3CG Ventures, a top executive coaching and strategic consulting firm.

Fan Take: This leadership change is crucial for restoring stability and trust within the NFL Players Association during a challenging time. David White’s background in labor rights and executive leadership offers hope for stronger player representation and a united front as the sport continues to evolve.
