Liverpool enjoys an incredible summer transfer window, placed in a great position to defend their Premier League title in the 2025/26 campaign.

The headline for the past summer is, of course, that Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen has arrived with a UK record transfer fee of £116.5 million.

Milos Kerkez, Jeremy Fripon and Hugo Echicchique arrived ahead of next season when marquees were added to enhance Arne slot options across the pitch.

However, Liverpool also lost Louis Diaz. Columbia International recently completed a permanent transfer to German giants Bayern Munich.

The former Porto guy may not be the only famous exit from Anfield, as Darwin Nunes may be on his way out of the club.

Al Hilal is reportedly locked up in a contract signing with Uruguay International.

Is it appropriate time for Liverpool to cash in Nunes?

David Ornstein claims that the Saudi club has agreed to an initial fee of £46 million.

It remains to be seen how much money they can recover from the total transfers that include add-ons, but it appears to be the right time for the Reds to win cash from the former Benfica star.

Liverpool reportedly paid a club record fee of £85 million to sign off on attackers in the summer of 2022, making it increasingly difficult to justify it as well as money the club has spent well based on their performance on the pitch.

Unfortunately, throughout the Nunes era at Anfield, the theme was an unreliable finish. He has not fully cited the possibilities the team has created for him over the past three years.

As you can see from the table above, the £85 million signature was below his XG in all three seasons with the club, but at that point it surprised 83 “big opportunity”.

This is why it may be the right time for Liverpool to move on from Nunes in interest from al-Hilal, as he hasn’t done enough to suggest that he can become a reliable option for the slot.

To sign Liverpool midfielder, Euro Club

Meanwhile, the Reds could take a bigger blow as Jurgen Klopp is about to poach one of his players in one of his Red Bull Clubs this summer.

According to Athletic’s David Ornstein, RB Leipzig is in discussion with Liverpool about a potential deal to sign the England Under-21 International Harvey Elliott.

The reporter says the German side has already been in contact with the Premier League champions and is now telling them about the left-footed ace’s move.

Ornstein added that Leipzig is aiming to take him as a potential replacement for Dutch star Zabi Simmons, who may head to Chelsea this summer.

Athletic article reveals that Liverpool is willing to sell Elliot for £40 million for one non-£50 million if it includes a buyback clause as part of the deal.

Given Klopp’s job at Red Bull and his connection at Anfield, the German boss has been able to play a role in playing this transfer possibility of his former midfielder.

Why losing Harvey Elliott will be a blow to Liverpool

Unlike Nunes, Elliott would not have left the club as Liverpool’s pitch wasn’t enough. Instead, they want more game time.

The English Starlets only played 28 times in all competitions during the 2024/25 campaign and only started two games in the slot Premier League. However, he was a useful player when called back with five goals and three assists from the mid-center position.

Elliott is a young player who has been constantly developing and improving at the age of 22. This means Liverpool hasn’t seen his best yet.

That means Raipzig will potentially benefit from his potential by offering him the opportunity to play regularly in Germany, rather than seeing him blossom by increasing his game time at Anfield.

The left-footed magician’s performance against England’s Under-21 at this summer’s European Championships suggests he is ready to enter a groundbreaking season as a key player for those playing for next season.

As you can see from the table above, Elliott was prolific for his country from midfield position throughout the tournament, scoring goals on average every 95 minutes.

The English Gem, who is described as “explosive” in the slot, could emerge as a great offensive midfield star who can score and create goals, as evidenced by Liverpool’s 11 assist hauling in 2023/24 season.

This is why losing Elliot this summer is even more of a blow than losing Nunes to Al Giral.

So, Liverpool will be a great option to call slots in the 2025/26 campaign if necessary, so you’ll need to reconsider your cash-in at Elliott before the end of the summer transfer window.
