Spain has reclaimed the top spot in FIFA’s women’s rankings, pushing the US down to second place.

This change comes even after Spain’s defeat to England in the final of the European Championship last month.

The US had held its number one ranking since August, following their gold medal win at the summer Olympics in Paris. Spain had previously been at the top from December 2023 to June, after their World Cup victory.

FIFA announced the latest rankings on Thursday.

Despite winning the Copa America for the ninth time, Brazil fell three spots to seventh.

England, who lost to Spain in the final of the Euros, moved up a position to fourth.

Sweden and France both made significant gains after solid performances in the Euros, with Sweden climbing to third after reaching the quarterfinals.

France moved to fourth despite being eliminated in the quarterfinals.
