Jaguars’ Cam Little Nails Stunning 70-Yard Field Goal in Preseason: “Holy Smoke!”

Cam Little was just weeks away from making history when he ended the first half of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ preseason opener with an impressive kick. On the last play of the second quarter, Little launched a 70-yard field goal that narrowed the Pittsburgh Steelers’ lead to 14-9. Following the kick, his teammates quickly surrounded him as he headed to the locker room.

Broadcaster Bucky Brooks expressed excitement as the ball soared through the air, saying, “Holy smoke, they got a shot.” The longest field goal ever in the NFL is held by Justin Tucker of the Baltimore Ravens, who kicked a 66-yard field goal against the Detroit Lions in 2021.

Despite this, Little has demonstrated his ability to make such long kicks, making him one of the top kickers to watch this season. There may be a competition to surpass Tucker’s record, especially with Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey, who achieved the second-longest kick in NFL history during a preseason game last year with a 66-yard field goal.

The Jaguars selected Little in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He had a strong rookie season, going 29 for 29 on field goals with a long of 59 yards, and was perfect on 27 extra points. Additionally, he achieved an 85.5% touchback rate on kickoffs.

Before entering the league, Little was highly regarded and earned first-team All-Southeastern Conference honors playing for Arkansas. He was the third kicker chosen in the draft, selected 212th overall behind Will Reichard (Minnesota Vikings, 203rd overall) and Joshua Carti (Los Angeles Rams, 209th).

Fan Take: This news excites NFL fans because it highlights a new star kicker with the potential to rewrite record books, adding thrilling moments to games. If Little continues to deliver such long-range kicks, he could redefine the role of kickers and bring a new edge to special teams in the NFL.
