Meet the Three Blackhawks Prospects Poised for Their NHL Debut in 2025-26

As August begins, October—and the NHL season—is quickly approaching. The United Center will soon be buzzing with Chicago Blackhawks fans eager to support their team. While the Blackhawks may not be strong contenders for the playoffs, there is plenty of excitement surrounding the young talent on the roster. Key young players such as Connor Bedard, Artyom Levshunov, and Frank Nazar are expected to lead the charge.

Several prospects might make their NHL debuts during the 2025-26 season, following numerous late-season call-ups last year. Among those most likely to join the big club are Nick Lardis, AJ Spellacy, and Sacha Boysbert.

1. Nick Lardis
Nick Lardis had an outstanding goal-scoring season with the Brantford Bulldogs in the OHL, netting 71 goals in 65 games and adding 46 assists for a total of 117 points. Signed and expected to turn professional in 2025-26, Lardis plans to start with the Rockford IceHogs but could earn a spot with the NHL team depending on his training camp and preseason performance. Assistant GM Mark Eaton noted that Lardis is on track to go pro next year, but his ultimate placement will depend on how he performs in September. Given his scoring achievements, the possibility of Lardis making an immediate NHL impact can’t be overlooked. Lardis himself is motivated to compete for a roster spot while remaining prepared to keep improving if he starts elsewhere.

2. AJ Spellacy
AJ Spellacy is a player who has steadily impressed the Blackhawks organization since being picked 72nd overall. He made a strong impression during the 2024 preseason but was wisely sent back to continue developing in the major leagues. While his past season wasn’t as productive as his preseason performance suggested, Spellacy excels as an energetic, responsible player in all zones rather than a pure offensive talent. If he shines in camp and preseason, he could get up to nine NHL games before potentially returning to the minors. Spellacy’s play alongside top prospects at the World Junior Summer Showcase underscores his potential and fit within Chicago’s plans.

3. Sacha Boysbert
Sacha Boysbert, Chicago’s 18th overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, is a promising two-way forward. He had a strong freshman year at the University of North Dakota, even though coaching changes disrupted the team environment. This offseason, Boysbert decided to transfer to Boston University, where coach Jay Pandolfo is known for instilling professional habits and a responsible, all-around game. Boysbert’s role on what is expected to be a competitive BU team should help him grow further. Depending on the timing after BU’s season, Boysbert could sign with the Blackhawks and make his NHL debut for a few games, gaining valuable experience.

Fan Take: This wave of young talent arriving in Chicago offers hockey fans exciting glimpses of the future, signaling a potential turnaround for the Blackhawks. Watching these prospects develop and possibly make early NHL impacts is a thrilling reminder of how fresh energy and skill can breathe new life into the sport.
